Snowboarding Jackets

Snowboarding Jacket

Snowboarding jackets are jackets designed to cope with all your requirements on the slopes.

The most important qualities of a snowboarding jacket are for it to be breathable and waterproof. If you think about it, snow is wet; therefore it makes sense to wear something that can cope with that!

Breathable

Snowboarding is exercise, enjoyable exercise, but exercise none the less. When you exercise, you sweat. If your jacket doesn't breath then pretty soon you will be soaked through.

Snowboarding jackets are normally made of materials that are designed to let moisture out, some may have vents under the arms to help ventilation also.

Waterproof

Snow is frozen water, therefore when it melts it's wet. A snowboarding jacket needs to be waterproof. Different makes and styles of jackets will have different waterproofing abilities, some will probably keep you dry if you wore it in a bath, others would only be suitable for a light sprinkle.

Snowboard Jacket - Buying Guide

Ok, so your jacket is now waterproof and lets mositure out, the next important thing is insulation!
Although you get warm when you exercise, you'll also be sitting on a lift whilst being whipped by the wind, some insulation round about now would be good!

You can buy a jacket shell, which is breathable and waterproof but doesn't provide much insulation. The insulation you cater for yourself by wearing suitable layers, such as a fleece and some kind of thermal vest.

Vents - These are zipped flaps that allow you to open them to help cool yourself down, they are normally found under the armpits, but sometimes across the chest or back.

Snowskirt - This is an extra flap of material than runs around the inside of the jacket to keep snow out.

Taped Seams - Check the seams of the jacket if they are sealed then this will increase its waterproofing abilities.
