If you going to be attempting any back country, tricks or jumps then I would thoroughly recommend that you invest in a snowboarding helmet.
Some snowboarding parks will not let you in if you haven't got a helmet; so that will blow your chances of trying out some rails!
In fact, it may be wise to get yourself a snowboarding helmet anyway, you can never be too careful! If you think about it under that snow and ice is rock. If you fall over and hit your head on packed ice or rock then you'll be pleased you did buy a snowboarding helmet.
