If you only going to be riding soft fluffy powder and not going to go anywhere near hard stuff then you may get away without wearing a snowboarding helmet but then I would recommend at least some kind of snowboarding hat or snowboarding beanie.
You can get snowboarding hats in every shape and form from baseball caps to jester hats.
About 70% of you body heat is lost through your head so to keep you warm on the slopes I would recommend a nice woollen snowboarding beanie.
